Inside the Locker Room Returns To Orinda

Fans can meet numerous Cal coaches and student-athletes

 

Golden Bear fans are invited to come to Orinda Theatre Square next Monday, February 3 for the second of four special editions of Cal’s weekly radio show, Inside the Locker Room, where they will have the opportunity to meet a number of coaches and student-athletes.

 

At the first show back on Jan. 27, fans in attendance got to meet basketball players Jabari Bird, Jordan Mathews and Reshanda Gray, as well as volleyball player Christina Higgins. The other remaining two scheduled dates are Feb. 17 and March 3. Inside the Locker Room runs from 7-8 p.m. each Monday and can be heard live on KGO Radio 810 AM and online on TuneIn.

 

Orinda Theatre Square, just off Highway 24 east of the Caldecott Tunnel, features casual, yet upscale dining with a menu for every taste, as well as an eclectic blend of boutiques and health and beauty services. Fans can also check out all the latest movie releases at an iconic Bay Area theater. Some of the featured restaurants in the square include Piccolo Napoli, Serika Japanese Restaurant, Shelby’s Restaurant, Barbacoa Mexican Comfort Food, Table 24 Neighborhood Comfort Food and Lava Pit Hawaiian Grill.

 

The Inside the Locker Room set for the Orinda appearances will be near Barbacoa Mexican Comfort Food. Fans are encouraged to make reservations ahead of time and reference “Inside the Locker Room” when making their reservation. Parking is available at the underground garage beneath the square.

For the Feb. 3 show, guests include basketball head coaches Mike Montgomery and Lindsay Gottlieb, as well as baseball head coach David Esquer and softball head coach Diane Ninemire. In addition, each coach will be joined on air by a student-athlete from his or her team, and they will be available to meet fans during the event.

 

Montgomery and the men’s basketball team are in Berkeley this week to face Arizona State and top-ranked Arizona. The Bears will square off against the Sun Devils first on Wednesday, Jan. 29, at 8 p.m. at Haas Pavilion. That game can be seen on ESPNU. Then on Saturday, Feb. 1, Cal will play the No. 1 team in the nation in Arizona at 7:30 p.m. at Haas Pavilion. The game can be seen on the Pac-12 Networks. Fan can also listen to every men's basketball game on KGO Radio 810 AM and online on TuneIn.

 

The No. 16/19 women’s basketball team will play Stanford in back-to-back games this week. First, the teams will meet at Stanford on Thursday, Jan. 30, at 8 p.m. The game can be seen on the Pac-12 Networks. Then, the Bears and the Cardinal will trek across the bay and meet again on Sunday, Feb. 2, at 1 p.m. That game can be seen on ESPN2.

 

Esquer and the Cal baseball team open the 2014 campaign by welcoming Texas to Evans Diamond for four games from Feb. 14-16, including a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 15. Joining Esquer on radio will be infielder Mike Reuvekamp, an Orinda native who attended Miramonte High School. Ninemire and the Cal softball team will trek to Tempe, Ariz., for their season-opening tournament at the ASU Kajikawa Tournament from Feb. 7-9. The Bears will play four games in the three-day tournament against New Mexico, Creighton, Bradley and Portland State.

 

Guests for future Inside the Locker Room shows will be announced as they are finalized.

 

Hosted by Todd McKim, Inside the Locker Room features guests from throughout Cal Athletics and airs through mid-April. During the winter months, listeners can expect to hear from Montgomery and Gottlieb each week. In addition, student-athletes and coaches from Cal’s Olympic sports and others with Golden Bear ties will make regular appearances.
