Pony Overview

2012 Regular

Practice Schedules for 2012 season

  • Practices will be on Tue and Thurs, starting on Jan 17.
  • They will go from 4:15-5:30 until the days get longer, then they'll go from 4:15-6:15.
  • There will also be practices on the weekends until the league games start in late February. Every weekend except Prez Day Weekend. Times TBD shortly.

Pony

Birthdates: Children born between 5/1/97 and 4/30/99; 13-14 years old on 4/30/2012
 
Minimum skills:
 
Generally speaking, the expectations at the Pony level are very high. A player must be proficient in all aspects of the game, and must possess very strong throwing, catching, fielding, baserunning, and batting skills. 
 
All skills required for Bronco, plus: 
  • "Expertise" at one (and hopefully) more positions
  • Understands strategy and is becoming more adept at situational issues depending on position played
  • Strong batting skills and able to read pitching
  • Throws with accuracy and velocity
  • Strong baserunning skills
  • Knows and can demonstrate proper footwork at preferred positions

 

John McGonigle - Pony Commissioner

John has been coaching youth sports for thirteen years, including nine seasons as a manager or coach in OBA.

Currently, he is enjoying his fourth year as an assistant football coach in Miramonte's frosh and JV programs. As Pony Commissioner, John is taking after his wife, Sandra, who served actively on the OBA board for six years. Along with their boys, Kelly and Casey, they enjoy attending several Giants and Sharks games every year.
