PITCHING RULE CHANGE
Objectives: To encourage the development of more pitchers at the Mustang and Bronco (“B”) levels, and to protect the health of young pitchers, thus ensuring a competitive and healthier OBA program.
NEW RULE: OBA will be instituting the following pitch count limitations for the 2008 season for Mustang and Bronco “B” only (Bronco “A” exempted):
- Mustang – a pitcher will be subject to a pitch count limit of 40 pitches per game and 70 pitches per week for the entire 2008 season and the playoffs.
- Bronco “B” – a pitcher will be subject to a pitch count limit of 50 pitches per game and 80 pitches per week for the entire 2008 season and the playoffs.
- If a pitcher reaches his/her pitch count limit while pitching to a batter, he/she is allowed to finish pitching to the batter.
- The inning limitations and guidelines specified by the 2008 PONY rules (as historically modified by OBA) still apply.
- Each team is required to maintain a Pitch Count Form (see Exhibit A) during each game and communicate the total pitch count of a pitcher to the opposing manager upon request.
- Each Monday, the following information as captured in the Pitch Count Form will be emailed to Mike Pauletich (pauletich@comcast.net) for each game played:
- Team Name
- Date
- Pitcher Name
- Total Number of Pitches Thrown
- Total Number of Innings Pitched
COMPLIANCE: The new pitching rules for Mustang and Bronco “B” will be monitored by the OBA Board of Directors to ensure that the stated objectives of pitcher development and health are met.
If the objectives are not being met, the OBA Board may modify these rules mid-season to further restrict innings pitched per day/week. OBA will be working with the Moraga and Piedmont programs to ensure consistent application of the new rules.
